SOMBRA jewellery is designed for daily wear, celebrating the textures and forms that make each piece unique. However, as with any valued object, the longevity of each piece depends on how it is cared for.

Treating each piece with intention ensures that its brilliance and original characteristics endure over the years.

Materials

  • 316L Stainless Steel: Our most resilient base. It is water and sweat-resistant, does not oxidize, and will not discolour the skin. Ideal for continuous, unrestricted wear.
  • 925 Sterling Silver: A classic precious metal. Oxidation is a natural process for silver when in contact with oxygen, but the piece can always be restored to its original state with proper cleaning.
  • 18k Gold Plating: Layers of gold applied over silver or steel. As this is a coating, natural wear is expected with prolonged use and friction. Extra care is required to preserve the intensity of the colour.

Maintenance Tips

1. Daily Ritual

Although 316L steel is extremely durable, we recommend removing 925 Sterling Silver or Gold Plated pieces before:

  • Contact with water: Showering, swimming, or sea bathing (chlorine and salt can compromise the shine).
  • Physical Activity: Sweat pH can accelerate the natural wear of the plating.
  • Sleep: To avoid unnecessary friction or damage to delicate pieces.

2. Cosmetics and Perfumes

Perfumes, lotions, or hairsprays should be applied before putting on your jewellery. The chemicals in these products can react with metals and affect the brilliance of natural stones and zirconias.

3. Storage

When not in use, jewellery should be stored in its original SOMBRA packaging or in a dry place away from direct light. Individual storage prevents contact between different metals and protects against surface scratches.

How to Clean Your Jewellery

If a piece shows signs of oxidation or loss of shine, we suggest the following:

  1. Gentle Cleaning: Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth to gently polish the surface.
  2. Warm Water: If necessary, use warm water and mild soap. Clean gently and, most importantly, dry the piece completely with an absorbent cloth.
  3. Stone Care: For pieces with natural stones or zirconias, avoid ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the stone's structure and setting.
